Battlefield 2042 has been considered a disappointment by many fans after the success of previous games in the franchise. The game received a negative review from Steam as players were looking forward to aspects of the game which were not included.
Interestingly, the number of concurrent players who have been on Battlefield 2042 has reached a maximum of just 2,090. This number is actually less than Battlefield 1, 4, and 5. Battlefield 1 saw a maximum of 7,498 while Battlefield 5 saw a maximum of 21,709. Battlefield 4, which was released back in 2013, also has Battlefield 2042 beat with a maximum of 2,195 players. A game being released back in 2013 and still being more popular to players is a troubling sign for a game that is struggling to keep its fan base interested.
Since the release in November 2021, the popularity of the game has seen a steady decline on steam. Even during the free weekend of the game in December, the game has seen a decline and currently sits at just 2% of the original peak player base. The highest point for the game was 105, 397. The slow decline of the game’s popularity comes from a few different issues that have been associated with the game.
Back in February, the season one battle pass was delayed so DICE could look into fixing other parts of the game, such as including a scoreboard during online matches. DICE has already acknowledged that the game has some significant issues and they will look into fixing what is happening. The maps of the game are all going to be fixed but that will not likely be until sometime near the summer of 2022. Although it may not be the best game on the market, DICE is hoping to improve the game and reward its fans for their loyalty to the franchise.
