Battlefield 1‘s first paid expansion They Shall Not Pass has been detailed. At first glance, you would think it has some similarity with The Lord of the Rings. However, it is not but that’s okay. Developer DICE released the full details of the new expansion. A post on the game’s main website outlines all of the content that comes with the DLC, including new maps, weapons, items, mode and more.
Four maps come with French-themed They Shall Not Pass: Verdun Heights, Fort Vaux, Soissons and Rupture. You can view images of all four of the maps in the gallery post on the GameSpot website.
They Shall Not Pass features the French Army, who dress in blue, as well as a new mode called Frontlines, which is described as a combination of Conquest and Rush.
“Both teams fight for one flag at a time and when this objective is captured the action moves on to the next,” reads a line from its description. “Capture the enemy’s HQ control point and the game turns into a Rush-style section where telegraph posts need to be attacked or defended.”
The new vehicles in They Shall Not Pass are a duo of tanks. The Char 2C tank. It is a behemoth-class vehicle which DICE describes as a vehicle that can “turn the tide of the entire battle.” The other tank is the St. Chamond. Both tanks can also be seen in prior mentioned gallery.
A new class also joined Battlefield 1: Trench Raider. Trench Raider is a melee-focused class. The Elite Trench Raider uses a “Raider Club” and has access to an “impressive grenade arsenal.”
The new weapon provided by They Shall Not Pass is the stationary field gun, called the Siege Howitzer, which can be fired at any infantry player. It can also be viewed in the Gallery.
There isn’t a known release date for They Shall Not Pass other than sometime after March 2017. However, players who have the $50 Battlefield 1 Premium pass can play the DLC and the three upcoming expansions two weeks before everyone else can buy them. The price of the DLC the also unknown.
