It’s only been a full day since the official release of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Belgium-based Larian Studios’ breakout hit has already hit some major milestones. Baldur’s Gate 3 saw the second biggest launch on PC behind Hogwarts Legacy, with a concurrent player peak of around 472,136 via independent Steam tracker SteamDB. Additionally, Larian CEO Swen Vincke revealed that over 2.5 million units were sold during the title’s early-access phase via Bloomberg which allowed Baldur’s Gate 3 to stay financed even as its development dragged on.
Players have been swamped with a monstrous amount of content to go through, and in a continuous surprise to many, there’s no microtransactions. According to the title’s official FAQ, Larian Studios believes that there is no need for any, stating that they “…believe in providing a complete and immersive gaming experience without the need for additional purchases.” Many players took to Twitter to praise Larian Studios for going in this direction while others reignited the debate over the impact of microtransactions in the modern gaming industry.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is headed for the PlayStation 5 on September 6th. Unfortunately, Xbox fans will likely have to wait until 2024 for an X|S release, according to Larian director of Publishing Michael Douse.
