Released at the end of 2023, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora provides the visually impressive Avatar franchise with a brand-new story through an action-adventure game. It was developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, following the story of a Na’vi that was captured by the RDA and is now a stranger to their own people. While the game offers a satisfying experience, many players were put off by the game’s 1st person perspective. The new update will alleviate this concern by adding a 3rd person mode along with the option to play new game plus. Later, the game’s next DLC, From the Ashes will add content to use alongside the changes while playing as a new character. Today, a gameplay teaser was released to promote the changes.

True to the movies that created the game’s setting, the visuals as the teaser opens are detailed and appear realistic. Following the establishing shot on the alien wildlife mixed with massive RDA machinery, the teaser jumps directly into the action. The complex air and ground movement is given a dedicated camera that works itself into standard gameplay. The teaser also shows of the main character of the DLC, So’lek, fighting with both human and Na’vi weaponry against various RDA equipment.

In addition to the teaser trailer, Ubisoft also released an announcement giving additional information on the intention of the update coming on December 5th before the DLC. There, they detail that players will be free to switch between perspectives except during cutscenes and the cooking, crafting, and gathering situations. The announcement also gives more information about the new game plus feature being added in the update. This will allow those who have beaten the game to preserve their equipment between playthroughs but will also offer a greater challenge compared to the base game.

The gameplay teaser has given players a chance to see how the game may be improved by the 3rd person update before jumping back in. Once they are in, the DLC coming December 19th will give them plenty of new content to enjoy.
