There’s something about communication and puzzles that really gets the tension going and really puts the trust of the person you’re talking to to the test. This is an all too familiar concept that could have been popularized by the hit indie game Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes. Only having communication and a set of puzzles is the main reason why Tick Tock: A Tale For Two was at the top for the Top 10 Mobile Games List back in March. And it’s still living on with a series known as We Were Here.
We Were Here is an escape-room scenario type game that has extreme atmosphere and relies on two players talking through a walkie-talkie to keep moving through a medieval castle known as Castle Rock; that’s situated in the wintery wasteland. You’ve found it, been knocked out by a mysterious person, and now need to get out. Rely on your partner to get you out of dangerous situations as one reads clues from a main room, and the other treks their way through the haunted halls to hopefully reach each other and escape. Of course, there is always one final choice at the end, but it’s up to the players to figure out how to proceed.
The sequel, We Were Here Too became a standalone after the first game, still taking place in Castle Rock. But now, it seems that a game is afoot as a disembodied voice tells you about certain trials that you’ll need to go through. Like before, you have a walkie talkie and your trust in your partner and the communication you two have will bring you together by the end, met with another choice after everything you’ve been through.
And then, in a short announcement, there comes a third installment: We Were Here Together.
We Were Here Together’s trailer shows off a traveler returning back to the famed Castle Rock. It always seems this castle is shrouded in both mystery, and a whole lot of puzzles. Like before, you and your partner will only be equipped with a walkie-talkie and your wits. Communication is key as new puzzles await the hall. But first, you have to get there.
The third installment is set up as a rescue mission for your fellow explorers, connecting the disappearance of the previous playable characters in the first two games. Developers Total Mayhem Games has stated that this installment will have a longer playing time than the previous two, as well as new mechanics, and new puzzles. And a whole lot of answers about the mysterious Castle Rock. As well as getting some information about the enigmatic “The Jester” who’s been an ever present force in the series.
We Were Here Together will be available October 10, 2019 for PC and can be wishlisted on Steam currently. Keep talking, keep your wits, and don’t let the puzzles kill you.
