Atlus Teases Persona 5 R Announcement for March 2019

Atlus has let the cat out of the bag, sort of. The company has announced what everyone more or less confirmed, Persona 5 R, or as they have abbreviated it, P5R. As promised, they revealed a trailer once the Persona 5 The Animation Dark Sun concluded, albeit a very short teaser trailer that only promises yet another announcement in March of 2019.

Atlus also registered some domain names for use on the web last week, and one of those has finally been fully updated to coincide with the reveal of P5R. The trailer itself is arguably the most bare-bones reveal in video game history. With a Japanese narrator in the background, all we’re shown is the city of Shibuya with the The Phantom Thieves of Hearts logo flashing on televisions, before changing to the words “New Projects.” The date “2019.3” then appears on full screen, indicating that we are in for yet another announcement in March of next year.

One thing that caught our eye was the Sony PlayStation logo at the beginning of the video. This is especially interesting as a lot of fans were assuming that this would lead to an announcement for a Nintendo Switch release for Persona 5. However, with multiple projects allegedly underway, a Switch version of the game might still be in the works, and as we reported last week, Atlus has a long history of re-releasing their games with newer content.

There really isn’t any surprise with the company continuing the hype train with Persona 5. The company made huge waves earlier this month at The Game Awards 2018 when they announced the main protagonist, Joker, as an additional DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. On top of that, it’s one of the most successful JRPG’s they’ve come out with, and it’s considered by fans and critics to be one of the greatest RPG’s of all time.

It’s important to note that this is all for Japan only at the moment. Atlus has yet to comment if P5R will make to to the Western Regions, but the company usually releases their games internationally, so we’ll more than likely just have to wait a bit longer for it.
