Grapeshot Games and Instinct Games, the developing teams behind the ARK series, has been hard at work creating what they see as the “most ambitious online worlds of all time” . This upcoming MMORPG title is known as Atlas, based entirely around a pirate fantasy adventure. It was first announced on December 6, earlier this month during the 2018 Game Awards. It was mostly kept in secret as the game was planned for release in Early Access on December 13, only a few days ago. However, the game was delayed for a week, according to the official Steam page. With no reason specified, Atlas had a new date for release, December 19. And just to get players back on track, the developers released a new launch trailer:
Atlas is meant to be a game that’s much larger than the ARK series, being able to host up to 40,000 players on a server at one time. It allows for players to create a personalized pirate character down to pixel-by-pixel personal tattoos with dynamic hair growth and real-time aging. Atlas developers do boast that it has a large number of sliders that allows for extreme character creation.
In Atlas, players can also create their own ships with an extensive building mode, as well recruit from either AI-crew members or real players to be a part of their dastardly crew.
But just like real pirate crews, ships can be fought for, or stolen. The PVP for Atlas is described as “everything is up for grabs”. If a player can reach it, then they can take it. The game does have a massive focus around PVP, including pirate ship fights out over the ocean. Along with the PVP comes a grand adventure of fighting monsters of all sizes, creating an entire empire for you to rule as a Pirate King, and much, much more.
