The Ataribox, Atari’s throwback console that was initially announced back in June is unfortunately experiencing a sort of delay. During the month of September Atari announced that the console’s crowdfunding campaign will officially be begin in the fall and that the consoles themselves will be out sometime around spring of next year. However, the development team has just announced that there seems to be a missing “key element” that is delaying the preorders for the new retro system.
“The countdown to the Ataribox launch on Indiegogo has been officially paused. Because of one key element on our checklist, it is taking more time to create the platform and ecosystem the Atari community deserves. Building Ataribox is incredibly important to us and we will do whatever it takes to be sure it is worth the wait,”
Within the most recent update, Atari stated that the Indiegogo launch that should’ve happened last week is being postponed, however the company promised that it will give us an updated release plan soon. “An updated launch plan is underway and more detailed information will be available soon. We will be keeping you, our community, informed every step of the way. Thank you again for your support of Ataribox,”
No specific details were given on the reason for the delay or what the missing “key element” might be, but there is a chance that the final release date for the console will be affected by this development. We will just have to wait and see what the new plan of attack is for Atari is when the next update comes.
