Back in 2022, Digital Eclipse and Atari went all out for Atari’s 50th anniversary with Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration. The game takes players on an interactive journey through 50 years of video games, including a specially curated list of more than 100 playable classics as well as six new games. The heart of The Anniversary Celebration is Interactive Timelines, which combine trivia, all-new interviews with the original developers, industry leaders, and playable games into one singular experience. Now, Atari and Digital Eclipse have announced a new expansion called Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition.
The Expanded Edition brings in and adds two new timelines to the existing game. The first new timeline, The Wider World of Atari features 19 playable games, 8 new video segments, plus “interviews, vintage ads, historical artifacts, and more” focusing on a broad range of topics. The second new timeline, The First Console War will detail the long-running rivalry between the Atari 2600 and Intellivision, a brand Atari recently bought. The First Console War will have 6 video segments and 20 playable games including a selection of M Network games, a mix of Atari and M Network sports games, plus rare Atari 2600 and 5200 prototypes.
Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition will be available as a standalone purchase and as DLC for the existing version of the game for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch version will also be getting a physical version of the Expanded Edition.
