Last night was the 28th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards where a total of 60 games released in 2024 were nominated, led by Astro Bot, Helldivers II, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle with six nominations each. Following the event, Astro Bot was the big winner taking home five awards including Game of the Year. Helldivers II was right behind them with four awards; Indiana Jones and The Great Circle and the big indie darling Balatro was right behind them with three awards.
In addition to Game of the Year, Astro Bot and developer Team ASOBI took home the awards for Outstanding Achievement in Animation, Outstanding Technical Achievement, Family Game of the Year, and Outstanding Achievement in Game Design. Helldivers II won Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design, Action Game of the Year, and Online Game of the Year.
Developer MachineGames took home the awards for Outstanding Achievement in Character, Oustanding Achievement in Story, and Adventure Game of the Year for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. Balatro scored developer LocalThink with the awards for Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game, and Mobile Game of the Year.
Other notable big, popular titles taking home awards include Black Myth: Wukong and Metaphor: Refantazio. Developer GameScience was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction for Black Myth: Wukong. Atlus’ Zero Studio won Role-Playing Game of the Year for Metaphor: Refantazio.
The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences also took the time to celebrate two industry leaders and veterans, Don James and Ted Price.
Don James, a leader and cornerstone of Nintendo of America’s legacy, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the games industry, from his foundational work at Nintendo to his passions at the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Ted Price, the former President and Founder of Insomniac Games, was honored with the Hall of Fame award for his contributions to game development, including leading Insomniac Games for three decades and advocating for video game creators’ First Amendment rights.
