Today, New Wave Toys, a company dedicated to recreating the authentic arcade experience has announced Asteroids X RepliCade, a fully playable, limited edition 12-inch tall replica of Atari’s legendary arcade classic. This is officially licensed by Atari which is celebrating 40 years of the groundbreaking vector-based space shooter and is modeled after the original 1979 arcade cabinet. Pre-orders are now live for a special discount price of $90 that ends on November 5. The full price of Asteroids X RepliCade is $119.99.
The Limited Production 40th Anniversary Edition (of 3,500) is a replica of the 1979 Asteroids arcade machine in 1/6th scale. It features professional reproduction cabinet art by Escape Pod. The original Asteroids arcade game is played on a high-resolution screen optimized for vector enhancement. The Arcade Operator’s menu features dip switches and cabinet settings. There is high score saving with non-volatile memory. It comes with an Atari Owl Eyes metal door with storage compartment, Atari cone Volcano buttons, authentic wood cabinet construction, illuminated marquee and cabinet accents, built-in high capacity rechargeable battery, amplified mono audio with volume control, and glow in the dark packaging. Accessories include 1 micro USB charge cable, 1 Replica Asteroids Owners/Operator’s manual, and 4 mini arcade tokens.
There is also pre-orders available for the exclusive Overhaul Edition of Asteroids X RepliCade. It’s a classy reinterpretation of a 40-year-old, well-worn Asteroids cabinet that appears refurbished and reconditioned. It has a beautifully aged and painted 3D bezel, a battle-scarred coin door, and a control panel “decorated” by cigarette burns. The Overhaul Edition is limited to 500 units and is also priced for a special discount of $90. The full price is also the same as the regular version at $119.99.
