A few days ago, gamers were able to get a look at what Ubisoft has in store for them at the Ubisoft Forward Event. One of the arguably most hyped games, is the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which will let players control the Viking Eivor as they raid across England. During the Ubisoft Forward Event, gamers were able to learn that they would be able to switch between genders at any time throughout the game. The reason behind this, as stated by Ubisoft’s Youssef Maguid in an IGN interview is because “the Animus allows you to replay genetic memory, and the memory isn’t always 100% complete and synced, and so it allows you to make some choices here or there.” Alongside this new gender swapping mechanic, Youssef Maguid also confirmed that “there are multiple people you can romance in the game, and you can romance all of them as either gender.”
While a romance system existed in Valhalla’s predecessor, it still had one narrative piece forced upon the player. In the DLC for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, players were forced either as Alexios or Kassandra to procreate with one of the respective children of Darius in order to continue the bloodline. It is possible that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s narrative won’t have any such forced event, and will allow whatever the player chooses to become canon. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla still has a plethora of information that still has yet to be revealed, however, back before the Ubisoft Forward Event, players were able to get a sneak peak at one of the bosses, Cordelia, the lightning wielding, teleporting demon goddess. The video itself states that the fight is a work in progress, but it revealed that the three skill lines mechanic from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is coming back in the form of a Wolf, a Raven, and a Bear. At the moment, not much more is known, but more information will likely be revealed at a later date.
Assassins Creed Valhalla will be releasing for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Google Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on November 17th 2020
