Assassin’s Creed Unity Getting Free DLC Next Week

Ubisoft’s much maligned Assassin’s Creed Unity is set to receive its first full blown story DLC next week on January 13.

Titled Dead Kings, the expansion DLC was originally intended to be a priced item that could be purchased at a discount as part of the game’s Season Pass. However, in light of Unity‘s launch, which went completely FUBAR, Ubisoft have decided to make Dead Kings free for all players to download.

Dead Kings picks up the story at the conclusion of the base game, with the player once again taking on the role of Arno. True to its namesake, this DLC has you leaving Paris to embark on a currently unknown quest at Saint Denis, a spooky city that contains the tombs of several French kings.

Within these crypts are a new faction enemies known as Raiders that you must deal with. The DLC will apparently feature a new weapon, ominously called the Guillotine gun. Will it be an actual guillotine with a pistol handle attached to it? Or a gun that fires guillotines? Who knows?

Aside from its main story campaign, Dead Kings will also play host to a number of side quests and activities to engage in, such as cooperative missions and new murder mysteries. New equipment and costumes unlocked in the DLC will also be usable in Unity‘s campaign.

Dead Kings will be out on the Xbox and PC on the 13th of January, while PlayStation 4 owners will have to wait another 24 hours before it’s released on the 14th.

Since Dead Kings is now free-LC, Ubisoft, by way of compensation, have offered a free game to anyone who purchased the Season Pass through Uplay, Steam, Xbox Live or PlayStation Network. Season Pass purchasers can choose from The CrewFar Cry 4Watch_Dogs, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Rayman Legends, and Just Dance 2015. They have till March 15 to make their choice.

Additionally, the Season Pass will now include an upcoming 2D spin-off titled Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China.
