Arnold Schwarzenegger Not Voicing the Terminator in Mortal Kombat 11

Earlier this week, NetherRealm Studios revealed the rest of the upcoming roster for Mortal Kombat 11‘s first Kombat Pack DLC. Joining Sheng Tsung and Nightwolf are Mortal Kombat original character Sindel and guest characters Joker, Spawn, and Arnold Schwarzenneger as the Terminator. The day after the announcement, Ed Boon shared his excitement on Twitter.

Ed Boon did get Arnold, but not completely. While the Terminator looks like the actor, specifically the way he looks in the role in the upcoming movie Terminator: Dark Fate, Arnold Schwarzenegger did not provide the voice.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources have communicated to them that Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios are using a “sound-alike voice actor” to capture the iconic and indispensable voice of the Terminator. Warner Bros. has confirmed that a substitute actor supplies the voice for the Terminator in Mortal Kombat 11.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has provided his voice for other video games that feature the Terminator character, including tie-in titles for pinball game Terminator 2: Judgement Day in 1991 and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2003.

During Schwarzenegger’s time as governor of California, he signed and backed a bill that aimed to restrict renting and selling of violent video games to minors. While helping to promote the 2014 film Sabotage, Schwarzenegger told The Telegraph that “the video games our children play are much, much more violent than anything in this movie.”

DLC character Terminator T-800 (cybernetic organism: living tissue over a metal endoskeleton) will release for play on October 8th of this year, with the Terminator: Dark Fate movie releasing the following month in the United States.

Mortal Kombat 11 and the first Kombat Pack are available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. The game will also be available for purchase on Google’s upcoming game streaming platform Stadia.

Angel Tuohy: I'm a fan of a lot of different games in different genres, and my favorites are Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Tekken, Persona, Resident Evil, and NieR. I think games are a brilliant way to tell a story, but it's important to me that the game is fun to play too. I've recently received my Master's degree in Literature.
