ARMS, the colorful fighting game available for the Switch, has gone through many updates despite its short life so far. In the latest 4.0 update, it was shown that the fighting roster will grow once more with the introduction of Misango.
Misango is a fighter that appears to have a heavy Aztec motif about him. According to the Nintendo Treehouse Log, he brings in new abilities and mechanics for gamers to play with. The fighter has a spirit that follows him around and can be utilized as a defense mechanism, or it can be absorbed to access his other abilities via three different masks. He also has a new arsenal of ARMS that inflict poison damage.
Misango’s spirit can be used once it charges up, and it is absorbed for use by either jumping or dashing. The other method is by holding down guard for a couple seconds, which will transform the spirit into a pillar that can be walked into to be absorbed or used as cover to deflect attacks. Once the spirit is absorbed, Misango will don a mask based on the color of the spirit. His spirit will periodically cycle through three different colors—red, yellow, and blue—and will create a red mask with horns, a blue mask with wings, and a yellow mask with spikes. The red mask will resist flinching, the blue mask will increase Misango’s mobility, and the yellow mask will block all incoming attacks for a short time once his rush combo is activated. These buffs, however, do not last forever, and can be ended if hit by a charged ARM attack, regardless of the buff.
Misango’s ARMS also boast poison damage that deals 1 damage person second if the enemy is afflicted, and the effect can stack for up to 3 points of damage per second. His first set of ARMS, Scorpio, has two ways of use. If the ARMS are used on the ground, the Scorpio will crawl on the ground towards the opponent and will jump at the enemy to inflict poison damage. If the ARMS are used in the air, then the Scorpio will transform into a disc, flying in either a wide or straight arc, inflicting poison damage still. The next pair of ARMS, Glusher, is a heavy set that will bounce once or twice before hitting an opponent for poison damage and can bounce over obstacles and other ARMS attacks. Misango’s last weapon, Skully, are a fast set of ARMS that can be used to attack quickly and inflict poison damage, but its light weight makes it so the attacks are deflected by heavier ARMS attacks.
The 4.0 ARMS update is now out for all users to download, and it also comes with a new Aztec themed map for fighters to combat in.
