Announcement Trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard Arrives

A return to Thedas is nigh for Dragon Age fans, as the series fourth installment Dragon Age: The Veil Guard had its official reveal trailer and release window showcased during Summer Game Fest this weekend. The trailer showcased the seven playable companions joining players on their journey, as well as some familiar faces from past games – mainly Dragon Age II’s Varric and Inquisition’s Lace Harding. Of the two it seems Lace will be joining the player on their adventure as a scout while Varric might just be fulfilling an NPC role this time. The other playable characters include a detective, a necromancer, and a dragon hunter, all of which lend themselves to a rather stacked team for an interesting adventure.

It has been nearly ten years since the last installment in the Dragon Age series being Dragon Age: Inquisition which debuted in late 2014. By the time Veilguard comes out Inquisition might have reached its decade anniversary. It has been a rocky road of development as Veilguard, previously titled Dreadwolf, met obstacle after obstacle from delays to new iterations, so it’s exciting to see it finally reaching audiences this fall. Hopefully it can match the ten year hype.

The cinematic trailer seems to be run using the game engine, meaning it probably reflects the cinematic cutscenes in game. Already some have commented on how the trailer and artstyle feels like new direction for the series. Whether that will be a positive in the long run is anybody’s guess. Luckily on Tuesday June 11th, BioWare will be releasing roughly the first 15 minutes of the game in a trailer. Hopefully this gives fans a better idea of what they’re going to get to experience later this year. Any final judgements should best be made when more information is presented on Tuesday. Get ready to decide who you want to romance, because the options are apparently more open this time.
