With E3 having come and left some massive impressions on fans for any type of gaming, the announcement of Animal Crossing: New Horizons was nothing but amazing and highly anticipated. We covered it during the Nintendo announcement here, but there’s always more information to happen as the days go on.
Since the first Animal Crossing, back on the Gamecube in 2001, the character Mr. Resetti has been a long time recurring character whose main goal in the game is to show-up when characters didn’t save their game properly. And by pop up, I mean from the ground. He’s a mole. And he does his job quite well. Well, he did his job quite well.
In a recent interview with project lead Aya Kyogoku, there was an interesting development with Mr. Resetti. And that he’s losing his job. Why? Because in the previous versions of the Animal Crossing series, games would require you to press ‘Save and Exit’ to have the game save. If you did ‘Save’ and then exited the game, there was Mr. Resetti getting in an upheaval about you not saving your game correctly. Or if you just shut your game off without saving, there he was again ranting and raving about you not saving at all! There are people who still go dead-eyed when there comes the mention of Mr. Resetti. There must have been a lot of rants…
But the reason he’s not coming back is that in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s the first of the series to feature an auto-save function.
I think this will be a positive thing for the player, because in New Horizons you can stop playing in the middle of your game and it’ll still save,” says Kyogoku. “But unfortunately because there’s no necessity to reset the game or reset button on the Switch, Mr. Resetti had a hard time. He was laid off from his position.
With the reveal that the character Mr. Resetti has lost his job, fans have been vocal about their upset and shock:
Sad cat memes sadly won’t bring Mr. Resetti back to his former glory.
However, there is good news! With Mr. Resetti being laid off, Kyogoku has hinted that the character will show up in a new role: “We also believe that Mr. Resetti is looking for a new job after his layoff. So please look forward to that.”
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is set to come out in 2020, with one less role for Mr. Resetti, but a possible new position for him coming up.
