Animal Crossing: New Horizons Holding its First Fishing Tourney on Saturday

The Bunny Day egg hunt is still going strong until Easter, but Animal Crossing: New Horizons has another event coming up before then. Saturday, April 12th, the game series is bringing back The Fishing Tourney for the first time in New Horizons. The challenge is a recurring event in the Animal Crossing series, but the details are a little different this time around.

Instead of really competing with the other villagers on their island, players will aim to catch as many fish as possible to reach different point tiers and win prizes. The size of the fish doesn’t matter; the goal is to achieve 300 points by the end of the day and earn the Gold Fish Trophy. Scores of 100 points and 200 points will award the player a Bronze Fish and Silver Fish Trophy respectively. Random prizes can be acquired along the way for every ten points a player uses with C.J. Other villagers will be populating the shores to fish as well, but what they catch won’t affect your score.

Some potential prize items include a Fish Wand, a Fish Cooler, Marine Pop Wallpaper, and even an Anchor Statue. As players earn more points, they may begin to get duplicate items, which most likely indicates that all potential items have been won. However, the Gold Fish Trophy can only be attained by achieving 300 points, so they’ll have to keep going even beyond these prizes. This tourney is really a race against the clock, so it’s best to head straight to the water and start fishing. After the player has earned at least 300 points, and all random items have been attained, they can stop, celebrate, and await the delivery of their Gold Fish Trophy to the mailbox.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is only available on the Nintendo Switch, and can be purchased via the Nintendo eShop.
