Already giving players a lot of freedom to design their own islands, Animal Crossings: New Horizons is now getting another update to help fans celebrate the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. Starting in March 2021 (which will actually put it outside the actual anniversary year), Animal Crossings will now let players design their own houses and islands with Mario themed furniture and decorations. Because of the (far placed) release date, there are no images or details about the furniture. There are also no details on how these decorations can be gotten (whether it be from minigames, paying DLCs, or freely). So far, Nintendo’s been really good at hiding clues and hints for the upcoming Mario themed update. While many fans are in the comments of the tweet are showing their excitement and suggestions, the official Animal Crossings account hasn’t responded or liked any of the suggesting replies.
This announcement came to be on the from the Nintendo Direct event last Thursday, where many other Mario announcements were revealed for the 35th anniversary. As Mario themed decorations have already been a thing in the Animal Crossings franchise, this is the first time that New Horizons has made plans to feature the popular Nintendo franchise. Even from the first Animal Crossings title, players have been able to get Mario themed furniture and decorations from different promotions and events in the game.
Nintendo’s most recent Direct event had many Mario themed announcements for its 35th anniversary. As stated before, this release will come outside the date for Mario’s 35th anniversary, but it will come just in time for New Horizon’s first year anniversary. Even with the end of the summer starting to come in, Animal Crossings has released new updates ranging from a bug fix to a fireworks event set to take place in the future.
