Andy’s Apple Farm is a casual horror game with pixel graphics and VHS effects that takes place on a nice, simple farm where nothing can go wrong. The game was released for early access today on Steam and for the PC, but was first introduced to Steam through a free demo version of the game that released on Nov. 11, 2021. Andy’s Apple Farm was developed and published by M36 Games, where the indie game developer also lent a hand with the game’s music and voice acting.
You play as Andy the Apple, an apple person who lives on the farm. On the farm, you will meet Andy’s friends: Felix the Fish, Melody the Moon, Margret the Mole, and Claus the Clock. One day, Andy and his friends are enjoying a nice day on the farm when Andy realizes that his house key is missing. To get his house key back, Andy’s friends want him to play some games with them, where you will need to beat these minigames and earn “Bonus Stickers” from each character. Once you collect all the “Bonus Stickers,” Andy’s friends might or might not tell him where they hid his house key. During these cute minigames, you start to notice that something more sinister and uncanny is happening on this farm under the guise of the cute character models, fun minigames, and hypnotic music.
An interesting and unique feature about Andy’s Apple Farm is that the developer intentionally created the game to resemble and appear as a fictional beta test version of the game “Andy’s Apple Farm,” a fictional game that was planned to release in the mid-1980s, according to Andy’s Apple Farm’s Steam page. As a result, the gameplay is structured as if you are a beta tester for the fictional game company Eastwood Games. You have to look out for bugs and periodically experience VHS “glitches” that reveal the true uncanniness and horror of the story behind the game. You might even learn the true intentions behind the minigames you play.
If you enjoy psychological horror games with an uncanny vibe and cute characters, you should check out Andy’s Apple Farm available for early access on Steam, where you can buy the game for $2.99.
