September saw the reveal of an innovative new title in the bullet-heaven tower defense genre. Co-developed by Rami Ismail and Aesthetician Labs, Australia Did It aims to address the issue of the recent lack of innovation or creativity seen in the games industry in recent years. With beloved and infamous titles constantly pumping out sequels and spin-offs from the same old source material, it is often the case that the independent developers in the industry are left to tell the truly gripping stories and create unique and innovative experiences that propel the idea of what a game can be into wholly new horizons. It is with Australia Did It that Rami Ismail and Aesthetician Labs seem to be planning on making their mark in the industry in regards to this very initiative.
Gamers got excited at the introduction to the post-apocalyptic wasteland in September’s cinematic story trailer, but as of Saturday, November 22, Australia Did It has received a brand new trailer diving deeper into what gameplay will actually look like for the player. In the “confidential” HR Orientation trailer for Australia Did It, players are introduced to their newly hired position as an ocean traffic controller. Set in a post-apocalyptic future where the Atlantic Ocean dried up—leaving a massive expanse of hostile desert land where once was an ever-expanding horizon of water—the player takes the helm of an important steam engined vessel carrying important cargo across the dusty, dangerous ocean floor. Due to the hostile nature of the ocean floor, however, players will find that hiring and merging skilled mercenaries for the proper threat will afford just the amount of protection the train needs to get through hordes of overgrown fauna.
As the first few looks at Australia Did It have just begun getting shown off to the public, an official release date is yet to be confirmed. Despite this, PC gamers via Steam have the possibility of getting in on the playtest, as sign-up opportunities have begun opening up.
