Pokémon GO is starting the year with an electrifying new event called High Zaptitude, giving Trainers around the world plenty of reasons to get outside and explore. The event runs from January 13 at 10:00 a.m. to January 18 at 8:00 p.m. local time and focuses on Electric-type Pokémon, global cooperation, and exciting new debuts.
A major feature of the High Zaptitude event is its Global Challenge system, where Trainers work together worldwide to complete shared tasks. As each challenge level is reached, bonuses are unlocked for everyone playing. This encourages community participation and rewards players for contributing through everyday gameplay such as catching Pokémon and hatching Eggs.
According to PokemonGO.com, as global challenge levels are completed, several powerful bonuses become available. Early rewards include double XP from catching Pokémon, making it a great opportunity for Trainers looking to level up. Later challenges unlock double Stardust from catches and hatches, which is especially helpful for powering up Pokémon. One of the biggest rewards comes with the debut of Wattrel and its evolution, Kilowattrel, which make their first appearance in Pokémon GO during this event. Trainers can find Wattrel in the wild and through Field Research, and it can be evolved using 50 Candy.
High Zaptitude also introduces a brand-new Shiny Pokémon to the game: Shiny Tadbulb. During the event, Trainers have an increased chance of hatching Shiny Tadbulb from Eggs, making this a must-play event for shiny hunters. In addition, Electric-type Pokémon such as Tadbulb, Shinx, Chinchou, and Helioptile will appear more frequently in the wild, many of which can also be encountered in their Shiny forms.
Egg hatching plays a big role during the event as well. Special 2 km Eggs can hatch Pokémon like Pichu, Elekid, Toxel, and Tadbulb, all with a chance to be Shiny. Event-themed Field Research tasks are also available, offering Pokémon encounters and extra rewards that help Trainers make the most of the limited-time bonuses.

For players who want even more rewards, an optional paid Timed Research ticket is available in the in-game shop. This research includes helpful items such as Incubators, Super Incubators, and Tadbulb encounters, along with a bonus that reduces Egg hatch distance when Eggs are placed in incubators during the event. A special Ultra Ticket Box is also available, bundling the ticket with additional healing items.
Overall, the High Zaptitude event offers something for everyone, whether you’re focused on filling your Pokédex, hunting Shiny Pokémon, earning extra XP and Stardust, or playing alongside the global Pokémon GO community. With new Pokémon debuts, powerful bonuses, and cooperative challenges, High Zaptitude is an exciting and energetic way to kick off the year in Pokémon GO.
