The Game Developers Choice Awards has announced that writer and director Amy Hennig will receive the Lifetime Achievement award at the 19th annual Game Developers Conference. The Awards will take place on March 20, 2019.
Katie Stern, the general manager of the Game Developers Conference, had this to say about the announcement: “Amy Hennig is a powerful figure in the game world; her work exemplifies what good game narrative can be, with pathos, humor, suspense, and energy. She is truly one of the most influential developers in the games industry. These past accomplishments are just milestones in a career that we’ll be following for years to come, but for one night at the GDCAs, we’ll reflect on the hard work and artistry that makes game developers like Amy the heart of the industry.”
Amy Hennig is best known as the writer and creative director of the Uncharted series while she was at Naughty Dog. She worked on Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. She was the creative director and game director of the first game and just worked on the narrative aspects for the sequels. Before she was at Naughty Dog, she was the writer and director of The Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver series, working for Crystal Dynamics. She left Naughty Dog in 2014 and joined Visceral Games to begin work on a new Star Wars game. Unfortunately, that project got canceled in 2017. The only footage that the gaming community has seen was during E3 two years ago when EA spent a portion of their conference previewing everything they were working on Star Wars related. Other recipients of the lifetime achievement award include Tim Schafer, Tim Sweeney, Shigeru Miyamoto, Warren Spector, John Carmack, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Hideo Kojima, Sid Meier, Ken Kutaragi, Dr. Ray Muzyka, Dr. Greg Zeschuk, and Peter Molyneux. The Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony will take place on March 20 at San Francisco’s Moscone Convention Center as part of the 2019 Game Developers Conference.
