Among Us has become one of the most played games of 2020. Among Us has delivered enjoyment to people across the world and it shows with a staggering 54 million downloads in September alone.
Among Us wasn’t as popular when it released in 2018, but has gained a lot of ground with it being the top free game on both the IOS App Store and Google Play. It has over 100 million downloads worldwide from July – September of 2020 alone according to Sensor Tower. It passes the next highest downloaded free game of around 68 million downloads, My Talking Tom Friends.
Among Us has also become very popular in Discord, which has noticed a high increase of downloads in Discord’s mobile app due to the game. The reason behind this is due to people needing a way to openly communicate rather than using the in-game chatbox. With this line of communication, people are able to enjoy other players’ company and even gain friends through the game.
Discord also mixes well with Twitch, which has also seen its fair share of action due to Among Us. Twitch has noticed a 650 percent increase in hours watched on the site for the game Among Us, making it the 11th most viewed category on Twitch.
With such a huge surge in popularity and downloads, the developer of Among Us, Innersloth, has decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead focus back on the original game. Innersloth was planning on expanding Among Us’s content and game features which were planned for the sequel.
“We have lots of things planned and we’re excited to bring new content to everyone as you continue to enjoy playing,” Innersloth wrote.
With new content being added to Among Us it is likely that the number of downloads worldwide will also increase; giving way to the increase in popularity of other platforms such as Discord and Twitch. One thing is for sure, whether for business or entertainment, Among Us seems to be good for all of us.
