It looks like we’ll have to wait just a little bit longer for the next installment of the Amnesia franchise. Developer Frictional Games announced that Amnesia: The Bunker has been delayed once again, this time until May 23, 2023. That pushes the game back from the most recent date given, May 16, 2023, which is a mere week’s difference. This delay was made so that the developer has a little more time to “polish the game and make sure everything is perfect before launch.” This also comes not too long after it was given an initial launch month of March when it was revealed back in December 2022 before being delayed into the month of May.
Amnesia: The Bunker is the latest in the Amnesia horror/suspense franchise, which is also approaching thirteen years in existence. Amnesia: The Bunker will take place in a semi-open world that takes place during World War I. The game will also feature some randomization features, something that should encourage more replayability. The title will also have a crafting system, the ability to wield a revolver and will have a serious emphasis on choices made by the player in the game. This will potentially let the player experience the title in different ways, and include different endings based on their decisions in the game.
Frictional Games is well known for their horror titles, as for their entire existence since 2007 they’ve only developed such titles. Their first IP, Penumbra: Overture, started a series that was followed by Penumbra: Black Plague in 2008 and its expansion Penumbra: Requiem which came out later in the same year. However, it was in 2010 when the developer became a household name when they released Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The title was a massive success and was critically acclaimed by critics and players across the community. This was followed by Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs in 2013, and a full-fledged sequel to Dark Descent in 2020, Amnesia: Rebirth. They have also released another title, Soma, in 2015 to similar acclaim.
