Alan Wake II Sold 1.3 Million Copies, Becoming Remedy’s Fastest-Selling Game Ever

The survival game Alan Wake II has become “the fastest-selling game for Remedy Entertainment” who is the developer of the game. The game has gone on to sell 1.3 million copies since its release in “October of 2023.” Remedy Entertainment put out an announcement on February 16th of this year on their website.

Alan Wake II sold  1 million units “by the end of December 2023” and 1.3 million units “as of the beginning of February 2024”.According to the sales information announcement that Remedy Entertainment put out on their site for the game Alan Wake II, the game “sold over 50% more copies and over three times more digital copies in its first two months than Control did in its first four months.” Control which is an action-adventure game that came out in 2019 “sold over 4 million units, generating net revenue (shareable revenue between Remedy and a publishing partner, excluding taxes and platform fees) of approximately EUR 100 million”.

They went on to say that “a great game” is able to “generate excellent long tail sales” and they believe that this may be the same with the game Alan Wake II. Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala had this to say in regards to the Alan Wake II:

“We are happy with the start of Alan Wake 2’s sales. The price point has also remained at a high level, and the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses. We will continue to develop the game to serve existing fans and attract new players and expect the game to continue selling well.” Tero Virtala continued: “The successful launch of Alan Wake 2 has supported our other game projects: Condor, Control 2 and Max Payne 1&2 remake have all increased development pace thanks to the personnel released from Alan Wake 2, and we expect these projects to reach their next development stages during the first half of 2024. We now have two established franchises: Control and Alan Wake, which are linked through the Remedy Connected Universe. Growing and expanding these franchises will be a key part of our future.”

In the announcement, they said they are developing “two paid DLCs” that will add to the story of the game Alan Wake II. They are also putting out “updates” and bringing about “other activities to support the game and its community”. This game is proving to be big hit with players and it’s proving that it’s leaving an everlasting mark on the gaming world.
