Paradox Interactive has released a new expansion for the game Age of Wonders 4, developed by Triumph Studios, called Archon Prophecy. The new update promises a large amount of new content across major platforms, according to a press release.
Archon Prophecy introduces a new culture, two new playable forms, fresh narrative content, new story realms, and an array of magical tomes. The Architects’ culture focuses on building monumental structures tied to chosen affinities, granting economic boosts and unique bonuses. The two new forms include the radiant Elysian, beings of divine grace, and the Ancient, mysterious figures from the depths of history.
Players can shape their ruler’s journey through Prophecy Traits, a new system that presents visions early in the game. How these visions are interpreted will determine the ruler’s destiny, with fulfilling the prophecy unlocking significant rewards. Two-story realms add new challenges: Rings of Emnora, a hidden Archon stronghold pivotal in the war against Urrath, and Cliffs of Sordünn, a land consumed by the Umbral Abyss awaiting reclamation.
Four new tomes deepen strategic options. The Tome of Virtue boosts armies with unshakable righteousness, the Tome of Prophecies manipulates fate with spells and omens, the Tome of the Revenant wields necromantic vengeance, and the Tome of the Archon summons celestial allies. A new hero class, the Battlesaint, offers both defensive resilience and sacred support, able to turn sacrifice into battlefield strength.
Archon Prophecy also adds seven new wildlife units, two mounts, five tracks from composer Michiel van den Bos, updated maps, a new interface skin, and other refinements. Alongside the expansion, all players can download the free Griffon Update, which delivers quality-of-life improvements and new features, detailed in the official patch notes.
The expansion is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S for $24.99, and is also included in the Age of Wonders 4 Expansion Pass 2, with a trailer to boot.
