After 12 Years The Simpsons Tapped-Out Game is Shutting Down

The Simpsons Tapped-Out game was launched in 2012 for iOS and in 2013 for Android users. Barely two years later, the game earned $130 million in revenue. Even with its fast-growing success, on September 26th, 2024, EA Games announced that The Simpsons Tapped-Out game will officially be removed from the app store on October 31st, 2024.

After Homer causes a nuclear meltdown, players have to rebuild Springfield. Expand the town by adding shops and businesses. The more the city expands, the more characters the players can collect. The Simpsons Tapped-Out allows the player to create their version of the town. Every holiday there is an event but this year they announced the game ending.

In a Facebook post, they stated that removing the game was an emotional choice. They are grateful that over the years, The Simpsons Tapped-Out game had 308 updates, 831 characters, and including today’s final farewell 1,463 questlines. They also thanked the players for making all of it possible.

After making this announcement, EA disabled in-app purchases and stated that those who downloaded the game before October will have it offline by January 24th, 2024. By this date, the servers will be turned off and TSTO will not be accessible.

EA made a follow-up statement, “We’re aware of an issue with the in-game currency to donut conversion and are investigating.” This is the last acknowledgment of the game.

At the time of writing this article, there has not been an official statement as to why the game is ending and EA has not made any statements about the game coming back in a different form. The Simpson Tapped-Out is 12 years old but it’s still the newest Simpson game. With no official statements and the lack of Simpsons games overall, players were disappointed but curious about what came next.
