The indie MOBA free-to-play title which offers itself as an alternative to cookie-cutter clones in its genre, ÆRENA, received an update that, once again, features “game-changing” enhancements. The game, developed and published by Cliffhanger Productions and released earlier this year, has been a rising force in coordinance with joining the Electronic Sport League (ESL), according to a press release from Cliffhanger Productions. The game is also cross-platform, allowing iOS, Mac, PC, and Android users to square off without compromising their platform of choice.
ÆRENA’s summer update, “ÆRENA 2.0,” includes a new and powerful robot who is an enforcer for the INCquisition, HAMMER. Daily missions and additional main missions have been tacked on through the update. Skins are unlockable for ships and champions, and the League Tier systems has been tweaked with the introduction of sub-tiers. To top it all off, the game has been given the treatment of a visual overhaul. According to a release, this includes new effects, UI, and a new animation system.
ÆRENA features turn-based combat that requires premeditation and cognitive expenditure. Teams are built, armed, and paired for a one-on-one duel to see who is left standing.
Creative Director of Cliffhanger Productions, Jan Wagner said the update is also a major milestone for the MOBA:
We have refined gameplay, created an awesome cast of champions, and introduced so many new features that I’m proud to say ÆRENA has truly become the competitive game of tactical combat we envisioned.
ÆRENA is found free on Steam, Google Play, and Apple’s App Store. For more information, check out Cliffhanger Production’s website.
