A Total War Saga: TROY Officially Announced, Launches in 2020

Sega and Creative Assembly have officially announced their next game in the Total War franchise, A Total War Saga: TROYJust like the name suggests, the game will consist of battles from ancient Greece, particularly in the fabled city of Troy. Fans of Homer’s Illiad are in for a real treat, as the game’s story is largely based off of this famous piece of literature, and now we’ll be seeing it for ourselves in living color.

Set during the Bronze Age of ancient Greece, you’ll be able to stay the course that history has already written, or forge your own path and change things up. This includes the legendary Trojan War, where the Greeks attempted to take over the city of Troy. There were also a lot of divine interventions within this narrative, which could mean we’ll get to see some appearances by Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, and maybe Hades.

The announcement trailer showed us some cinematic cut scenes of those battles, and it looks as if the developers have completely captured, or as close as they could’ve, an accurate portrayal of the Trojan War. We see soldiers from both sides of the front wage war upon each other, with one Trojan and one Greek warrior in particular having a stare down before going at it themselves. It’s a near picture perfect look at the ancient mythology that is Greece, and how their history shaped the world.

We also got a sneak peak of the how the main campaign is going to look. Creative Assembly has always been known for their excellent execution of map placements, and this is no more evident with TROY. The background is lush with gorgeous environments which include mountain tops with clouds that have lightning protruding from them, a dirt landscape with the sun in the backdrop, and a magnificent view of the beaches with the cities on the waterfront.

We’d also like to point out that majority of the story is told through the Iliad, thanks to Homer, which has been passed down for generations by word of mouth and other written literature pieces. So while there’s a small chance that none of this happened, the story itself is the stuff of legends, and we can’t wait to partake in it.

A Total War Saga: TROY  will launch sometime in 2020 for PC. On the game’s Steam page, it’s listed with a release date for November 27, 2020, but this is more than likely just a place holder date.
