A Story About My Uncle Release Date Announced

Developer Gone North Games have announced the release date for their very first game, A Story About My Uncle. Set to be released on Steam on May 28, the game will feature a mixture of platforming and narrative-driven gameplay.

A Story About My Uncle is touted on Gone North’s official website as a “non-violent First-Person platform adventure game built on the Unreal Engine.” Indeed, as the teaser trailer shows, the game appears to be based heavily on gameplay reminiscent of Mirror’s Edge.

Instead of gunning down hordes of enemy combatants, the player, using some type of energy-based grappling hook, must traverse vast environments brimming with color and dream-like landscapes and contend with hostile creatures in a more evasive fashion.

The game’s narrative will be framed by a father, the player character, telling his daughter a bedtime story of his adventurous search for his uncle Fred, who one day disappeared when he was just a boy. The father’s search takes him on a journey across ethereal worlds as various clues about his uncle’s disappearance are gradually unearthed.

A Story About My Uncle was originally a free Unreal Development Kit demo by Gone North Games, who are comprised of a small nine-man team of former game students in Stockholm, Sweden. Since then, Gone North have worked to build the demo into a full release.

The game is being published by Coffee Stain Studios, who are most famously known as the studio behind Goat Simulator.
