A Sight for Sore Eyes, Mai Shiranui Returns in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

SNK has really been making waves this week, with the Terry Bogard trailer for Street Fighter 6 dropping yesterday, as well as the Garou: City of the Wolves Official Trailer releasing at the same time, they’re really trying to make headlines. Of course, if you’re a SNK executive and want to really make an impression on social media, there’s only one girl you need to turn to, the “Queen of Fighters” herself, Mai Shiranui:

Appearing out of nowhere ninja style, SNK’s ever popular resident kunoichi Mai Shiranui makes her first official appearance in the Garou series, one of the few characters besides Terry Bogard and Billy Kane to be a Fatal Fury veteran appearing in the series and she’s here sporting a new leather look hearkening to her noted taste for metal music (though don’t worry, as pictured above her classic costume is in the game as well).

Bringing her classic fans and fire, Mai has a lot of her legacy moves from Fatal Fury as well as King of Fighters like the elbow rush as well as the Ryuuenbu uppercut, not to mention the fire aura special that surrounds her in flame to catch the opponent. With Mai’s appearance, as well as Billy Kane’s, we can’t help but wonder if any other Fatal Fury classics are going to appear in Garou’s roster, such as Mai’s husband Andy Bogard, longtime series favorite Joe Higashi, or Terry Bogard’s love interest Blue Mary.

This is a pretty historic stretch of time for Mai, as she will not only be a rare returning character from Fatal Fury to Garou, she’ll also be appearing in Street Fighter 6 alongside her SNK ally Terry. Truly, SNK is really doubling down on their mascot characters and letting them roam the fighting game plane as they see fit, and we’re all for it.
