A New Trailer Has Revealed that Crimson Capes is Coming February 12th

The transition from 2D to 3D is perhaps the largest jump that video games have ever made, with many genres undergoing drastic changes to fit into the new format while many others did not survive the transition at all. A much less common occurrence but equally interesting is when a genre moves from 3D games to 2D titles. Yet another take on a 2D Soulslike game, Crimson Capes, has just announced its release date. Developed and published by Poor Locke, the new title boasts smooth pixel animation and a few metroidvania elements.

The majority of the information available on the game can be found on its official website. There, it reveals that players will control the Tempest in the kingdom of Amvros. Their mission will be to defeat a cult of wizards and necromancers, learning of a deeper conspiracy along the way. While they combat the evil group, they will also gain access to some of the magical powers the wizards possess, including the ability to control the wind and thunder. The website also promises multiple areas to explore, including castles, caverns, and fields, all of which can be seen in greater detail in the trailer.

One of the most immediate features that the trailer shows off are the smooth animations. The combat in Crimson Capes is based off of real combat movements, allowing players to mix up their attacks and parries to gain the upper hand in melee combat. The character is shown fighting monstrous sea creatures and hairy beasts standing at twice a person’s height. The trailer also shows off the item system, allowing players to customize their gear that they have obtained along their travels.

Many fans have shown interest both in the game’s genre and its realistic animations throughout the comment section of the release date trailer. Players will have the chance to judge Crimson Capes for themselves when it releases on February 12th on Steam.

Alexander Jordan: I'm an English Major with a passion for video games. I like games that challenge me or make me think in ways that I wasn't prepared to. My favorite genres are platformers and strategy games.
