One of the video game community’s most beloved and revered horror characters is making their long awaited return. Slender Man is coming back, and developer Blue Isle Studios wants us to get ready as they’ve launched a countdown on their website with only a little more than a month to go. They also released a very short teaser that will only keep us awake at night for the next month and a half. The last time we had a Slender Man title was in 2013, so to say that the series is due for a new entry is an understatement.

As we already mentioned, the teaser that the developer posted is very brief, 13 seconds to be exact. Despite this, the video only had us asking more questions than ever before. Titled with the tagline “He’s waiting….” the video starts off with a dark and eerie setting that has a ceiling light floating back and forth. We see a room with stairs, which at the bottom has what looks like a deformed child-like monster. The screen buzzes like an old tv before coming back with the same setting. We don’t see the famous Slender Man in any of these shots, but we’re more than likely going to see him in some capacity leading up to and at the end of the countdown on the site.
The Slender Man character himself was made famous through the internet by creepypasta meme back in 2009. This idea was taken to new heights when Parasec Productions created their own IP based on the character. Slender, then changed to Slender: The Eight Pages, was released in the Summer of 2012 through Microsoft Windows and OS X. The title quickly became one of the most viral titles online, becoming the subject of many Let’s Play’s on YouTube and a plethora of reactions videos to boot. The IP received an additional launch with Blue Isle Studios coming in to take the reigns. Dubbed Slender: The Arrival, the title launched less than a year later in the Spring of 2013 for several platforms and is considered the fully fledged edition of Slender Man.
The timer on the site is slated to end on July 28, 2023. Until then, we’ll be sleeping with the lights on.
