A New Rumor Suggests That The Nintendo Switch Is Getting A YouTube App This Week

The Nintendo Switch has always been about games since its launch. Every week, more and more games, big and small, get added to the library. There isn’t the suite of entertainment options that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have with streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. Well, a new rumor that was tweeted on Saturday claims that a YouTube app will come to the console on Thursday.

The tweet translates to “Rumor- The YouTube app is expected to arrive soon on Nintendo Switch, especially on November 8 if you believe the Nintendo America website.” This tweet isn’t the only evidence to suggest that YouTube is indeed coming to the Switch. Certain people on ResetEra say that they are getting suggestions for a YouTube app when they search for games on Nintendo’s website. As of now, the Nintendo Switch only has two streaming apps: Hulu and Niconico.

When the Nintendo Switch first launched, no streaming options became available. Then, the console got Niconico, a streaming video platform that is huge in Japan. The service is best known for its live streams, as fans can leave comments that appear on the video itself. Niconico is only available in Japan, however. Hulu became available for the Switch afterward. If YouTube is set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch, then it seems to be only a matter of time before other big streaming services will be making their way to the platform, such as Amazon Prime or Netflix. Netflix had said before that Nintendo was “still exploring the opportunity” to have the service on the Switch. Netflix has been on a Nintendo console before when it came to the Wii  U.

Hopefully, in the future, multiple streaming services will become available on the console. While the consoles are primarily used for gaming, it is always nice to have the options of the services, especially since practically every other device in the world has these streaming services available to use.
