Revealed at The Game Awards 2025, Order of the Sinking Star instantly gained a lot of attention due to the massive, promised scope of the project and the director behind the game. Today, director Jonathan Blow released a new trailer for the upcoming game on his YouTube channel. In this overview trailer, he personally breaks down the core gameplay features of each section of the map, along with the special feature that will bring them all together.
On the official website for Order of the Sinking Star, the world is described as a realm of magic and enigma. This is expanded on in the new trailer, which explains that players will start at the center of a massive map with access to four different regions. Each region will serve as the basis for a new set of mechanics that players will be able to interact with. The first allows players to command a party of heroes that need to work together to solve puzzles. The next sees players take control of a merchant with the unique ability to swap places with his reflection. The third focuses on an explorer that can access twelve different abilities based on the color of light he is passing through. Finally, the fourth area allows the player to control waterways to reach new areas.
While the anthology of separate games already boasts a wealth of mechanics, the biggest reveal of the trailer is that after a certain point in the game, players will be able to take the characters from one area and send them into others, combining their abilities and using them within the framework of other games.
Many gamers enjoy listening to the thoughts of those who work on games in order to get a sense of both what the game is trying to do and the passion that the person has for the project. The newest trailer shows a lot both about the game’s features and the excitement that went into making it. Order of the Sinking Star is planned to release soon for Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
