Behaviour Interactive revealed a new character, a red haired female guitarist, for the horror survival game, Dead by Daylight. In the trailer, the guitarist survivor is singing in front of a campfire.
In Dead by Daylight, players can either play a killer or a survivor. The killer is in the first-person perspective and can use special abilities to track survivors, and four other players, who play as survivors, are in third-person perspectives and can better observe the surrounding environment. Survivors never knows what will happen in the game, and therefore, with the fear of being hunted, the player must make brutal decisions under intense pressure. For example, when should the teammates be abandoned and when should they be chosen to be rescued, etc.
As the core concept of Dead by Daylight, and the effect that this game hopes to achieve, the atmosphere of fear is immersive around survivor players. They should be screaming, for the feel impending doom and fleeing horror is harmonizing with every step of decision making. On the killer’s side, it seems to bring out the pleasure of a cat and mouse chase, and it maximizes the slaughtering game experience.
The horror impression of this new character trailer rewinds those classic thrillers like Ring (1998) and Psycho (1960) by having the camera get closer and closer to the guitarist from the back. To top it all off, there is a mysterious tension cut when she turns around, and there is a gasp sound effect. In the trailer, the most interesting thing is we can’t see her face, and it is just like those similar scenes from horror movies. Fans were not sure about this guitarist’s identity and were arguing about whether the character is a survivor or a killer, but Behaviour Interactive plans on having both a new killer and new survivor added to the game next month.
You might wonder why this is such a hyped topic. Here is the reason: in the last part at the end of the trailer, we see a broken bottle leaking purple gas which is obviously not oxygen. It is unknown if this character will be a new bardic survivor, or a new killer featuring poisoning gas.
Dead by Daylight is on Steam, and it is free play this weekend. Not only this, but it is on sale from a 41% to 60% discount starting from $9.99.
