Silver Pines is a traditional detective story: someone is missing, and it’s your job to go around town and collect clues to locate them. You play as private investigator Red Walker, a man who wakes up in a diner in the small town of Silver Pines. As the player, you know nothing about the town or what you, as Walker, are doing there. Only when you exit the restaurant and answer a payphone on the side of the road do you begin to get a sense of what is truly going on.
The person on the other line asks an odd question: “Have you found him yet?”
Walker finds out musician Eddie Velvet is set to play a show in town. It’s highly anticipated because it is his last gig, but he is nowhere to be found. Being an investigator, Walker follows up on this missing person’s case, and after walking around a little more, he notices there’s no one around. This town is half-abandoned and half-forgotten; it’s as though the entire town is missing. Not a single human is present or available for questioning.
Silver Pines is described by developer Wych Elm as “a love letter to classic survival horror,” and for good reason. The map the game provides you and metroidvania navigation is reminiscent of the Silent Hill games. There are places to explore, but they are blocked off and need good thinking skills and backtracking to unlock. However, the farther you progress, the worse things become.
The town becomes more accessible but more dangerous. Horrifying monsters occupy Silver Pines rather than average human residents, seemingly guarding the truth of what really happened here. To get to the bottom of this mystery, Walker must fight his way through and solve this case that quickly became a rabbit hole.
Silver Pines can be added to your Steam, Switch, XBOX, PlayStation, and Epic Games wishlists ahead of its release on October 8, 2026.
