What appears to be a child’s diorama of a village turns out to be much darker in CUTOUT. Here, everyone and everything is made of paper, pencils, glue, and anything else found at the bottom of a junk drawer. This paper world is home to Lena, the only child of a dying forest who is rejected by her village. The overbearing king of the residents condemned her home to death by stealing its heart to craft his scepter. Without its heart, the forest is in anguish, it isn’t the same place it once was. The only way to save the forest is to retrieve the king’s scepter, but Lena isn’t the only one with this idea. This leads to a race against time for those interested, all with the intention of becoming the new ruler of the land and its people at any cost. This leaves the little girl with the difficult decision of tucking her tail between her legs and returning to a home that doesn’t want her, or giving the village a brand new start.
Developer 906 Games has come up with a fresh concept of visuals for CUTOUT, a beautiful handcrafted fairytale that is sure to go down as one of the most unique games of all time. “Cut and paste combat” is taken literally here, as the limbs of enemies can be taken and attached to Lena to change how she fights, moves, and survives. Different combinations and enemy types will allow each player to create their own builds that are suited for their playstyles. However, beware of those who you can take from, as one wrong move can leave Lena in the same position they were meant to be in: missing a limb.
Here, in Learwood Forest, every choice a player makes matters. Every decision made and every path taken will affect Lena and determine who she will become at the end of her journey. This little girl’s faith is in your hands: will she claim what she was denied or will she heal what they destroyed?
CUTOUT was announced at gamescon 2026 and is available to wishlist on Steam now. There is also a sign up to join the playtest for the game on its website.
