A decade old Minecraft server is officially shutting down following a slow decline of membership and maintenance issues. Mineplex was a Minecraft server started by Gregory Bylos and Spujel in January 24, 2013 and was one of the oldest running Mincraft servers in its history. The announcement of the server’s termination came early Tuesday morning in the Mineplex Discord server after its website and servers were down for multiple days.
“…As you’re all aware, all servers and the website have been down for a couple of days now. Unfortunately I have been given the burden of informing you that this will be forever.” said former Mineplex Head of Staff DeanTM.
“I shouldn’t need to be the one to tell you all this, I shouldn’t HAVE to. But in the end you all deserve to know that it’s over and I suppose I’ll need to be the one to do it. I wish there was more to say, I wish that things could have gone differently and I wish we all would have had time to say a proper goodbye, give it a proper send off. I am sorry that it went the way it did, you guys are passionate about this server and its always inspired me to want to do better even if I didn’t have the opportunity to…”

For many fans of Mineplex its been a long time coming. Following the server’s peak in 2015, where it broke a Guinness World Records record for “having 34,434 concurrent players on a Minecraft server at the time”, its slowly experienced a reduction in its player base and an increased amount of issues with its connectivity, servers, and management. Regardless, many fans of the server took to Twitter expressing their sadness at Mineplex’s closure.
