One of the more intriguing indie titles to come out in 2020 was One More Level’s Ghostrunner. The futuristic cyber-punk-themed first-person title exceeded expectations by selling more than 500,000 copies since it released in October of last year. One of the game’s publishers, the Italian-based 505 Games, was apparently impressed by this and has decided to become much more associated with the title. The company has announced that they have purchased the IP rights to Ghostrunner for approximately €5 million, or $5.8 million.

According to the press release, 505 Games purchased the remaining IP rights from their fellow publisher, the Poland-based All In Games. Both companies co-published Ghostrunner and held a specific amount of rights to the property leading up to and after the title launched. 505 Games is now the sole owner will retain all rights to the IP, and will more than likely proceed with new content as well as potential sequels. One interesting tidbit coming out of this deal is that All In Games will still retain the right to profit from sales of the original title.
As we already mentioned, Ghostrunner sold roughly 500,000 copies when it released last year. The title’s development costs around €2.5 million, all of which was recouped when the game launched the very same day. The game was well-received by players and reviewers alike, with many praising the excellent combination of the first-person perspective with its movement and combat mechanics. As the year 2021 progresses, we expect those sales numbers to increase exponentially, especially if 505 Games has more in store for the now established franchise.
Ghostrunner is available now for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
