2K Announces New Studio Hangar 13

Today 2K publishers announced the release of a new gaming studio called Hangar 13. It is spearheaded by industry veteran Haden Blackman most predominately known for his work at LucasArts Entertainment.

Blackman started off his career writing for LucasArts, which later lead him into becoming the franchise director and executive producer for the Star Wars video games. Some of his notable works from the Star Wars series are The Force Unleashed and Knights of Old Republic. Blackman is a skillful writer and has won several awards that include the Writers Guild of America’s Videogame Writing Award and GLAAD Media Award for DC comic book series, Batwoman. Currently he is writing for the Marvel comic book series Elektra.

Hangar 13 is located in Novato, California, mere minutes away from 2K games publishing group and was formerly a United States Air Force base. These base buildings were renovated for Bay Area companies and have access to exclusive entertainment areas. The name Hangar 13 pays homage to the unique style of the aircraft hangars that are now used as office spaces.

Their team is comprised of Haden Blackmen- Studio Head, Andrew Wilson-Executive Producer, Dave Smith-Art Director, Matthew Urban-Director of Studio Operations, Laurent Gorga-Technical Director, Matthias Worch-Design Director, and Matt Bauer Audio Director. All members of the team come from different parts of the globe to create a wonderful mixture of gaming experience.

Currently the Hangar 13 studios team is working on a project that while unnamed focuses on, “creating an intense action game, set in an immersive world with strong narrative.” They also want players to be able to use their choices to form and shape the world around them. The concept of creating their games stems from the team’s mantra, “Every Player Story is Unique.” The vision Blackman has set for Hangar 13 is similar to the company’s slogan.

“The reason why I got excited about games as a kid, and continually went back to games and played games, was because the games I was playing at the time did have this notion that the player’s story was unique. I could sit down and talk to my brothers about playing the game, and the experiences I had. And it would be different on some level than the experiences that they had.”

The idea behind Hangar13 is very exciting because they are not only looking to develop games but create stories and memories for players of all kinds to enjoy. Please visit their website for more information, as well as reading up on members of Hangar 13.
