1980 Classic Battlezone Coming Back with Battlezone VR

For anyone who had a Windows 98 computer, remember playing that game with the tanks that was made of nothing but green lines?  That game was Battlezone, and now the 1980 classic is coming back on Playstation VR.

Developed by Rebellion Studios, who are most notable for the Sniper Elite series, Battlezone VR takes the classic tank combat gameplay and revamps it with HD graphics, new maps, new weapons, and Playstation VR.  Unlike the first game which was just a bunch of lines, this new Battlezone gives you a full cockpit that you can look around in with Playstation VR.

In Battlezone VR, you move your tank with the right analog stick and you aim and shoot with the buttons on the right, pretty standard shooting-game controls.  It looks like the VR will let you look around the cockpit, but you won’t have to jerk your neck around to see your enemies around you.  The game looks bright and colorful, and there are moments in the trailer that definitely pay tribute to the original Battlezone.

Even though this is a remake of a 36 year old game, it seems like a great fit for VR.  Virtual Reality gaming still has long way to go, so starting out with a simple premise and just trying to make a fun game is what matters most.  We’ll wait an see how successful the Playstation VR will be, but Battlezone VR is a positive sign of things to come.
