15 Minutes With Styx: Master of Shadows

Cyanide Studios give us a sample of gameplay from their upcoming Stealth/RPG hybrid title Styx: Master of Shadows.

When people think of stealth games there are only a few series that tend to stand out. You have Thief, or Splinter Cell, or, at moments, Assassin’s Creed. Cyanide Studios and Focus Home Interactive are looking to add another name to that list in Styx: Master of Shadows, a stealth-em-up set in a rich fantasy world full of goblins, elves, and lots of conveniently-sized and placed crates.

In Styx: Master of Shadows, players take on the role of, surprisingly enough, Styx, Master of Shadows. Styx is a goblin assassin on a quest to ascend the Tower of Akenash and generally kill, maim, and/or rob every living being in between him and his goal. Players have a number of moves to help them on their journey, from clones to acid to invisibility, and a number of customizable skills to help make their play experience unique.

Cyanide has a lot to say about Styx: Master of Shadows. The studio is clearly proud of their work, and for good reason: for such a small studio, producing a game on the scope of Styx is a big endeavor.

Styx: Master of Shadows, the infiltration game developed by Cyanide studio for PlayStation®4, Xbox One® and PC, was revealed in great detail at E3 in Los Angeles where the game attracted the attention of press and players alike.

But for those who missed the chance of attending the game presentation or simply for those who were unable to see us in Los Angeles, here’s the gameplay trailer for Styx: Master of Shadows that shows a continuous 15-minute game sequence, unedited, and with commentary by the developers.

This is an exciting opportunity to discover the gameplay options available in Styx: Master of Shadows. Infiltration, the special talents and skills of the goblin character you play and all the game mechanics will allow you to scale the dizzying heights of the vast Tower of Akenash that contains your ultimate objective: the heart of the World Tree, the source of the amber, immense power and fabulous riches; because let’s not forget that Styx is essentially a master thief!

Of course, words can only go so far when it comes to describing a game’s content. Sometimes a visual says more than a thousand words, and Cyanide Studios delivers exactly that with their new video giving players a short demonstration of the kind of action they can expect to see Styx perform.

Cyanide Studios and Focus Home Interactive have worked on games with fantasy elements before. They are responsible for the very well-liked Bloodbowl games, as well as the PC Game of Thrones tie-in titles. Styx: Master of Shadows is, however, their first stealth-based game, and looks to be a pretty radical departure from their previous work in terms of mechanics and scale.

In the end, Styx: master of Shadows seems to be shaping up to be a great addition to the libraries of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC when it releases, and will help to add depth to the sparse selection of stealth-based games on the market.
