Earlier today, IGN uploaded a video on Youtube that showed 15 minutes of gameplay from the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Racer. With the release date of October 6th of this year coming up in just a few months, many gamers who are fans of racing games or the Star Wars franchise have likely been waiting for something like this to be shown. That being said, here’s some of the things that were shown within the 15 minutes of gameplay:
The video follows 15 minutes of gameplay from within the campaign, where players will start out by creating a loadout for their vehicle. This loadout system appears to include a vehicle, a racing style, and up to three “Favors”, all of the player’s choice. With this loadout system, it also appears that there will be a shop that players can purchase parts from, all in order to upgrade their vehicle. While the 15 minutes of gameplay from the campaign only showed the planet Jakku, it appears that players will be able to visit and race on other planets throughout the game’s story mode.
But throughout the races on Jakku, some mechanics were shown off that show a lot of similarities to other titles within the racing game genre, including button inputs for a strong start to a race, as well as a boost for players to reach top speeds. However, these mechanics include a unique twist on them. For example, the button inputs to start a race act as a sort of quick time event, including a chain of inputs that need to be done correctly and timed just right. Additionally, the style of racing is a bit different from the typical racing game, as Star Wars: Galactic Racer seems to encourage players to ram and wreck other racers while on the track.
It looks like Fuse Games, the developers behind Star Wars: Galactic Racer is doing what they can to deliver the pod-racing games many gamers have been looking for. However, these 15 minutes of gameplay may only be scratching the surface of what the game will feature. The gameplay shown was exclusively from the campaign of the game, the video not revealing anything on the online multiplayer. Yet, if this gameplay showcase is anything to go off of, it seems development is on the right track.
