So have you ever lost something important to you by doing something dumb? Well an 11 year old Destiny player by the tag of Cuckooknight HD has experienced this after a troll deleted his characters.
Cuckooknight HD was told by a user called KirmitTHEFrog that he could exploit a glitch to level his character quickly to level 32. Cuckooknight HD used the the PlayStation 4’s Shared Play feature to allow for this. The feature is meant to be used for players who are stuck on something too difficult, and wish to pass the controls to a friend to get them past it.
In this instance, the feature was not used for its intended purpose, and now someone has suffered. Keep in mind that Cuckooknight was using a streaming service during all of this, so you can find his video in this link and witness the turn of the events for yourself.
After passing control of his game to KirmitTHEFrog, Cuckooknight walked away for unknown reasons, and upon returning found that two of his two highest level characters were being deleted, which were a level 31 Warlock and a level 26 Titan. In the video, as the poor boy returns and sees one of his Exotic weapons being dismantled, you can hear him saying “Oh my god, no, seriously?” in a very disappointed voice. Right after this he joins Kermit and tells him, “I didn’t even want that weapon anyway”. After discovering that two of his high level characters have been deleted, you can hear the poor boy start to sob over everything he has lost.
Later KirmitTHEFrog was interviewed with a Gamer Informer reporter. The reporter had found out that KirmitTHEFrog had been in a head-on car collision and was recovering at home during the time Cuckooknight’s characters were deleted, KirmitTHEFrog had this to say about his accident “I don’t look at life quite the same anymore. So I guess I was too trusting when people came over to hang out. I was sleeping a lot so I would not notice.” KirmitTHEFrog had no idea the event even took place till he started getting death threats over PSN. With him recovering and having lost his sister to cancer back in 2011, the death threats have been very difficult for him.
Game Informer also found out that a 17 year old who was a friend of a friend of Kirmit’s had admitted that he had deleted the characters and felt that the 11 year old should “Suck it up and move on with life.” When asked if he would ever try to do this again, his reply was “It depends on the situation.”
It’s obvious that the perpetrator does not feel guilty for his actions; actions that have hurt an 11 year old, Cuckooknight HD, and another young man that was only trying to recover from an accident, KirmitTHEFrog. Bungie even mentioned this in one of their weekly updates, saying “protect your Guardians from sleazy online jerks.” I couldn’t agree more. How do you feel on this situation? Which person do you feel is more the victim here?
