100 Thieves has signed Spencer “Hiko” Martin as the captain and first official member of their new Valorant esports team. Hiko initially announced the move on his livestream, and intends to devote all his time to the game while building up a professional team. He also confirmed his official “retirement” from Counter-Strike Global Offensive (CSGO), with his last team being Rogue. Hiko will continue his over a decade long esports career in Valorant moving forward. 100 Thieves took to their Twitter page to share the news and as well and expound upon what fans can expect.
Nadeshot, founder and CEO of 100 Thieves, recapped the organizations previous successes in games like League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Fortnite. He reveals the number one question he gets asked is which esports game will the organization expand to next, and the answer is Valorant. Hiko goes on to compare CSGO and Valorant, saying the mechanics and gunplay are similar. After 18 years of competitive CSGO, he says Valorant stuck out to him due to its similarities, but he also talks up the uniqueness of the game. The added abilities provided him many options for strategy and play-style that he says keeps the game fun and enjoyable to plan for.
Hiko asserts his aspirations for the team plainly, saying “…my goal and 100 Thieves’ goal is exactly the same. My goal throughout my entire career has always been to win.” Nadeshot echoed a similar sentiment, saying “we are going to build our own competitive team to try to be the best in the game… that’s been our goal since day one with 100 Thieves.” Hiko closes out saying he plans to bring championships to the organization, and he can see himself being apart of 100 Thieves for a long time.
