Subway Surfers remains at the forefront of Apple games even as the runner mobile app nears its 10 year anniversary since its release date in May of 2012. According to Sensor Tower, the game hit 15 million downloads in July making a total of $200k in revenue pushing this little game to the top of the Must Play Games list in the app store once again.
What has made this game so successful compared to every other runner mobile game? The answer is simple: it’s just a good quality game. There is little to no lagging which is important with a game so dependent on accurately timed dodges and jumps. Game World Observer’s gameplay analysis breaks down how Kiloo developers found a way early on to eliminate these slip-ups by creating a format that moves in one, continuous straight line rather than taking the kinds of twists and turns present in Temple Run 2, which are unfortunately known for causing glitches in the app. In addition, Kiloo continues to add regular updates as technology improves ensuring the game remains competitive on the App Store. The young, street, hip hop aesthetic of the game, created by Sybo puts the player in an exciting and colorful atmosphere that keeps players coming back for more.
In order to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of its release date, the game is starting early in September by creating a Las Vegas-themed subway for players to explore. They are also teaming up with the Born This Way Foundation in order to promote the #BeKind21 movement.

The app ranks 38th on Similar Web’s Top Free iPhone Apps list and 4th in the games category after True Skate, Merge Cube and Fighting Stance, though it out-dates both of the latter two by 9 years as far as release dates are concerned. Players never seem to get tired of racing down the perilous city subway tracks winning goodies and improving their ranking no matter how old the Subway Surfers becomes.
