As E3 2021 draws closer, we’re getting more and more news about what we can expect for the first virtual E3 experience in terms of how it’ll work and who will be involved. Microsoft, Ubisoft, Capcom, Nintendo, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games, and Koch Media have announced that they will be participating in the event. Ubisoft will be having their next Ubisoft Forward during E3. EA Play will be taking place after E3 in July. Plus, details have been revealed regarding the return of Summer Game Fest, which kicks off June 10. Today, a new report has revealed that Microsoft and Bethesda will be having a joint conference together.
Microsoft made headlines last year when they announced that they would be acquiring Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda. It became official earlier this year. Many were probably wondering how things would go following the acquisition if Bethesda would continue to have its own event during E3 or not. Now we know. Will this be the case going forward? Time will tell.
Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Games Studio revealed the news in an interview with Le Figaro where it was reported that “Microsoft and Bethesda will host a joint conference this summer to introduce players to their upcoming projects.” Bethesda is the latest acquisition for Microsoft; regarding any more, Booty reportedly told writer Chole Woitier “I can’t share anything.” Woitier added that “it did not smell of a firm and definitive no,” so it’s possible that Microsoft may announce more studios joining the company.
Regardless, Microsoft will have plenty to talk about and show with the Xbox Games Studios family. Bethesda alone has eight studios that could be showing something. Perhaps, we’ll get our first look at Starfield, the next highly anticipated RPG coming from Bethesda Games Studio. Recently, it has been reported to be exclusive to PC and Xbox and will not be available on PlayStation. It is reportedly coming in 2022.
E3 2021 takes place next month from June 12 – June 15.
