The graphical overhaul of 4A Games’ Metro Exodus is coming much sooner than we thought. The studio has announced that Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition will officially launch May 6, which is less than a week away. They also collaborated with Digital Foundry, which is known for taking video game visuals and breaking them down piece by piece in their videos. 4A also reiterated that the updated game will be completely free for existing owners across multiple PC platforms, but you’ll need to have some serious hardware to be able to run it.

As we mentioned earlier, Digital Foundry has an exclusive video detailing all of the new enhanced visuals that Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition offers. At an astounding 40 minutes, the video does not leave any stone unturned. According to Digital Foundry, it features a full ray-traced lighting pipeline which adds a serious improvement to all of the lighting and has advanced ray-traced reflections. It also has support for Deep Learning Super Sampling 2.0 (DLSS) on Nvidia hardware and a wide variety of optimization options.
Unfortunately, there is a major caveat to all of these wonderful enhancements. Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition actually requires the use of ray tracing, meaning that if your graphics card cannot perform this task, then the game will not work at all. The PC requirements at the very minimum demand that your build has an Nvidia RTX 2060, which is the bottom of the barrel in terms of performing ray tracing, but is considered a sweet spot in today’s modern PC gaming. If you were lucky enough to score one of the new RTX 3080’s, or a 3090, then you should have little to no issue running this title.
4A Games previously stated that they were also planning on bringing Metro Exodus over to the newest generation of home consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For those who prefer these versions as opposed to the PC one, it looks like we’re still waiting to hear more on them as the studio did not mention anything in their latest post. We’ll more than likely get an official date sometime later this year.
Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition will officially launch next week on May 6 for PC through Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, and the Windows Store. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/Series S versions will release later this year.
